Monumental Games, the independent UK games developer, has been placed sixth in The Sunday Times Microsoft Tech Track 100 2010, a ranking of the fastest growing private technology companies in the UK.

The Nottingham based outfit, which features in the listing for the first time, has seen its sales grow 146 per cent a year from an annualised £346,000 in 2006 to £5.2m in 2009. Founded in 2005, Monumental primarily focuses on online games, and its new PRIME technology enables thousands of people to play simultaneously in 3D worlds embedded in social networks such as Facebook.

Rik Alexander, Chief Executive Officer of Monumental Games, said, “We’re really pleased to have entered the Tech Track 100 in such a high position, and alongside some excellent companies. Our growth is testament to the amazing team spirit that’s here and the great talent we’ve assembled.”

Dr Richard Wilson, CEO of TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, said: “For Monumental Games to be ranked No.6 is a major achievement. It not only reflects the drive, excellence and vision of Monumental Games’ management and team; it also demonstrates the vitality and potential of the wider UK games industry. Monumental’s success will inspire many other UK games businesses to strive for further successes.”
